St. Vincent De Paul
Since 1935, St. Bede Parish has sponsored a Conference of the Society of St. Vincent de Paul. Through this Conference we perform Corporal Works of Mercy by feeding and clothing those in need. Volunteers make home visits in our area and assess needs for furniture, clothing, household goods, food, rent, or utility payments. If the client wishes, we may pray together or leave inspirational material.
The Vincentian Vocation is more than an opportunity to volunteer, for it involves the growth of each member’s spiritual life. During the year the Society organizes days of recollection as well as the Bishop’s Mass and communion breakfast, which is held every September coinciding with the Feast of St. Vincent de Paul. Every meeting includes prayer and reflection.
Friendship among members is important in the group effort to be a channel of charity and evangelization to those we serve. In the words of St. Vincent de Paul, “Only through the charity of Our Lord can we transform the world. The wonderful thing is that in letting His love pass through us, we are ourselves converted.”
How You Can Help
If you feel an attraction to the Society and its ministry, the reward will be a joyful deepening of your spiritual life.
2nd Annual Walk for the Poor
There are two ways to participate in this walk for the poor.
1. You can register as a walker and commit to walking 10,000 steps (which is approximately 5 miles) during the month of October. All walkers receive a pedometer, a water bottle and a walk t-shirt. Then you recruit sponsors for a minimum of $5.00.
2. You can support a walker as a sponsor for $5.00. All sponsors are registered in a drawing for one of these great prizes!
~~~~~$3,000 VISA Gift Card~~~~~
~~~~~$500 Wal-Mart Gift Card~~~~~
~~~~~$250 Giant Eagle Gift Card~~~~~
It couldn’t be easier! Walkers choose when (in the month of October) and where they want to walk. Best of all, 100% of the money raised by walkers stays in the Saint Bede Conference to help our less fortunate neighbors. Saint Vincent de Paul provides basic needs such as, food, shelter, clothing, furniture, utility assistance and rent.
