Appalachian Mission Drive
The generosity of the St. Bede parishioners reaches far and wide. Since 1988, the parish has held a yearly mission drive for the poor of Eastern Kentucky. Over these many years, this mission drive has helped Monsignor Beiting in his life’s work to help the desperately poor in Appalachia. Although God called Monsignor Beiting to His Heavenly home in 2012, the poor remain and so does Saint Bede Parish’s dedication to supporting the mission Monsignor Beiting began so many years ago.
Every November, boxes for donated items and labels are distributed after all the masses. Packed boxes and other items for donating are returned to the garage behind the rectory.
The day after Thanksgiving, volunteers meet at the rectory to pack the truck with the donated items. That same day the truck leaves for Kentucky.
Monsignor Beiting reminded us every year that so many of our neighbors are in desperate need. He continues to call us to help by giving of our excess. Start today to fill a box with items that you would like to give away.
