Adult Faith Formation
As part of the St. Bede Parish Pastoral Plan, the Adult Faith Formation (AFF) Committee was formed in 2010 to assist St. Bede parishioners in their spiritual development. Understanding that our faith journey is a perpetual learning experience, the AFF supports, in a variety of ways, the following activities:
Book Club: Several times a year, the AFF group picks a book for parishioners to read. The book is then discussed at a meeting sponsored by the AFF Committee. Through study and lively discussions we grow in faith and fellowship. Watch the bulletin and web site for announcements about upcoming book club meetings!
Bible Study: The AFF organized a pilot Bible Study during the Lenten season of 2012. The Bible Study was so successful that the bible study program will continue to be offered.
To get the full flavor of an herb, it must be pressed between the fingers, so it is the same with the Scriptures; the more familiar they become, the more they reveal their hidden treasures and yield their indescribable riches. — John Chrysostom, A.D. 347-407
Lecture Series: The AFF has sponsored a variety of lecture series over the last several years on a variety of topics. Several more lecture series are planned for the coming year. Watch the bulletin and web site for announcements about upcoming lecture series!
Volunteer Opportunities Related to Adult Faith Formation
Public Relations Specialist (Do NOT need to attend AFF meetings): Public Relations Specialists put together information, such as brochures, about upcoming events and ensure that this information gets put into the bulletin and in Mass announcements, etc. Example brochures and a “how-to” document already exists.
Book Club Facilitator (Do NOT need to attend AFF meetings): Book Club Facilitators just need to read the book, write a few notes, and come up with some questions to ask…the rest of the Book Club attendees will do the bulk of the talking!
Bible Study Facilitator (Do NOT need to attend AFF meetings): Facilitators do have special study guides to read in order to facilitate the actual Bible Study. One or two discussions with the other facilitators are very helpful in order to assure a successful bible study.
Adult Faith Formation Team Member (DO get to attend AFF meetings!!): Adult Faith Formation team members get to attend monthly meetings where really exciting events are planned like the ones above.
If you would like to participate in any of the programs listed above or if you have an idea for the formation of new programs, please contact one of the coordinators.
